Festival Exhibitor 2014: Lars Elling
Poetic and dreamlike for art and film lovers in Haugesund.
It is with great pleasure The Norwegian International Film Festival, Haugesund Art Society and Haugesund Museum of Fine Art presents Lars Elling as this year's film festival exhibitor. The exhibition opens on Sunday 17 th of August at 6 p.m. in Haugesund Museum of Fine Art.
Evokes memories of childhood
The Norwegian painter, illustrator and author Lars Elling (b. 1966) lives and works in Oslo. Elling works with tempera on canvas as his media of communication. His layers of imagery evoke memories of childhood, with the possible disturbance and trauma written between the lines. Family is the repetitive theme in Elling’s works; familiar moments infiltrated by surprising or unpleasant elements.
The formalistic aspect of Lars Elling’s paintings is characterized by the erased and the broken. The pure visual expression has a meaningful function, where story and poetry are strong fundamentals. The paintings can be seen as a burst of memory, a description of a moment, where the almost experienced or almost seen is presented in a dreamlike and poetic expression.
Exhibited in London and New York
Lars Elling was educated at The National Academy of the Arts in Bergen. He has had solo exhibitions in Oslo, London, New York and Trondheim. Elling's works have been purchased by the Norwegian National Gallery, Trondheim Kunstmuseum, the EU Commission, and Arts Council Norway, and appear in many private collections in Norway and abroad.
The annual Festival Exhibition is Haugesund Art Association's most profiled exhibitions and is the result of a collaboration with the Norwegian Film Festival and Haugesund Art Gallery. The exhibition opens August 17 and runs until 14 September 2014.
